ABOUT
The East African mining sector is emerging as one of Africa's most strategic growth frontiers, driven by vast untapped mineral resources, increasing exploration activity, and growing investment in both traditional and critical minerals. The region, comprising countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and South Sudan, is endowed with significant deposits of gold, graphite, rare earth elements, copper, nickel, tantalum, limestone, soda ash, gemstones, and other industrial minerals. Mining is increasingly becoming a major contributor to economic growth, export earnings, government revenues, employment creation, infrastructure development, and industrialization across the region. As governments continue to implement policy reforms, strengthen regulatory frameworks, and improve the investment climate, East Africa is attracting substantial local and international investment aimed at unlocking the full potential of its mineral wealth.
Against this backdrop, the performance of mining fleets and equipment has become a critical determinant of operational success and competitiveness. Fleet assets represent a substantial proportion of both capital and operating expenditure within mining operations and have a direct impact on equipment availability, cost per tonne, fuel consumption, maintenance costs, safety performance, and overall mine productivity. Improving fleet reliability, optimizing maintenance practices, embracing digital technologies, and deploying data-driven asset management strategies are therefore essential for mining companies seeking to maximise returns and sustain long-term growth. The Mining Fleet & Equipment Performance Forum – East Africa provides a timely platform for industry leaders, mining companies, OEMs, technology providers, and other stakeholders to share best practices, showcase innovation, and collaborate on solutions that will drive the next phase of growth and operational excellence across East Africa's mining sector.
