MSC Egypt’s inland trucking business has grown from five trucks in 2008 to 162 fully owned heavy-duty units. The fleet links the major container gateways with inland industrial and logistics centres, giving the shipping line direct control over part of the landside journey. The word “owned” is significant. Many shipping lines rely heavily on contracted hauliers; MSC’s Egyptian model puts a substantial truck fleet directly inside the carrier’s operating system.
