Driving Growth: Absa Bank Kenya and Transafrica Motors Expand Access to Commercial Vehicle Financing

Absa Bank Kenya recently entered into a strategic partnership with Transafrica Motors aimed at expanding access to commercial vehicle financing and supporting growth within Kenya’s transport and logistics sector.

Through the agreement, businesses are able to access up to 90% financing for selected commercial trucks, with repayment periods of up to 72 months. At the time of launch, the initiative was positioned to address ongoing pressures facing fleet operators, including rising operating costs, supply chain disruptions, and tightening liquidity conditions.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Absa Bank Kenya Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamed highlighted the growing importance of resilient and efficient logistics networks in an increasingly uncertain global environment. He noted that access to productive transport assets plays a central role in improving operational efficiency, speed to market, and overall business profitability, and emphasized the need for structured, flexible asset finance solutions to support business resilience and growth.

The partnership was designed to reduce upfront capital requirements for businesses, enabling them to expand or renew their fleets while preserving working capital. It also introduced a more coordinated financing journey, linking vehicle selection, credit approval, and deployment through collaboration between the two institutions.

Transafrica Motors Chief Executive Officer Ali Zubedi noted that the arrangement improves access to reliable commercial vehicles while making financing more accessible, allowing businesses to scale operations with greater financial flexibility.

From Absa’s perspective, Business Banking Director Renato D’souza described the initiative as part of a broader effort to build an integrated ecosystem that supports customers beyond financing alone, with a focus on enabling efficient movement of goods, job creation, and wider economic contribution.

In a related development, Absa Bank Kenya also recently partnered with Global Motors Centre to support financing for Jetour passenger vehicles, offering up to 100% financing over similar repayment terms.

Together, these initiatives reflect Absa Bank Kenya’s ongoing asset finance strategy focused on widening access to mobility solutions and strengthening enterprise capability across both commercial and personal vehicle segments.
