At Inchcape Africa, where performance depends on execution across fragmented markets, Anneliza Mukuria Ondier is responsible for the people systems that support the business. She is People Director for Africa at Inchcape, the global automotive distribution and retail group headquartered in London and operating in more than 40 markets across Asia Pacific, Europe and Africa. The company represents more than 60 automotive brands globally and operates as importer, distributor, retailer and aftersales partner for OEMs that do not maintain direct retail operations in many markets.
In Africa, Inchcape operates in Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti with roughly 1,200 employees and more than 14 operational sites. Globally, it employs over 16,000 people and reported revenues of about £9.3bn in 2024. The Africa business spans importation, logistics, vehicle distribution, retail sales, parts supply and aftersales services.
In Kenya, Inchcape is the authorized distributor and retailer for BMW, BMW Motorrad, Jaguar Land Rover, Changan and New Holland. The portfolio covers premium passenger vehicles, motorcycles and agricultural equipment. Operations include sales, certified pre owned programmes, service centres, bodyshops and parts distribution.
Mukuria Ondier oversees the full people agenda across the region, including leadership development, talent acquisition, reward, performance management, employee relations and organizational design. Her role requires alignment of global HR frameworks with local labour laws, union structures and market specific employment conditions.
She has more than 15 years of HR leadership experience across East and Southern Africa and broader AMEA markets. Her background spans financial services, consumer goods and industrial sectors, often in organizations undergoing restructuring, integration or regional expansion.
Before Inchcape she held senior HR roles at Flora Food Group and Upfield, working across manufacturing, supply chain and commercial operations in multiple African markets. These roles involved building regional HR systems across dispersed operations where workforce planning and industrial relations directly affected operational continuity.
At Inchcape, her work is shaped by shifts in the automotive sector including electrification, digital retail models and changes in aftersales requirements. In Africa, these trends are compounded by uneven technical skills supply and growing demand for digital capability across sales and service roles.
The HR function therefore focuses heavily on capability building, succession depth and leadership development across countries. It also involves sustained engagement with employee relations frameworks, including collective bargaining structures in markets where formal labour negotiations are a core part of operations.
Inchcape Africa’s scale means workforce capability is a central constraint on execution. Growth in distribution and aftersales depends on whether consistent skills, leadership and service standards can be maintained across markets.
Mukuria Ondier’s role sits within that constraint. It ensures that global systems translate into local execution and that organizational expansion remains supported by stable and aligned people structures.
